• Students classified as ELLs have the same access to programming in which all other children are eligible to participate. TCIS supports the academic achievement of ELLs through access to grade-level standards and curriculum, social and academic language support, bilingual literacy resources and Bilingual Educational Assistants.  All classroom teachers receive: SIOP coaching, shared planning time, peer observations, content support, specific EL consultation, and continuous professional development on best practices with ELLs to best support all learners. In addition, ELLs are receive content and language support through our service model.

    TCIS EL Service Model
    Kindergarten students:
    With a WIDA Overall Composite Level 1.0-2.9/ W-APT 0-20 Receive the following:
    -Collaboration and co-teaching model between an EL teacher and classroom teacher for content support
    -Small language intervention groups 4x/week for 30 mins a day during class intervention time

    With a WIDA Overall Composite Level 3.0-3.9/W-APT 21-25 Receive one of the following:
    -Collaboration and co-teaching model between an EL teacher and classroom teacher
    -Small language intervention groups during class intervention time

    With a WIDA Overall Composite Level 4.0-4.5 and did NOT exit/W-APT 26-27 receive one of the following in addition to EL collaboration in content classes throughout the week:
    -Content work monitored by EL teacher
    -assessed each trimester using WIDA Model

    Students in Grades 1-8:
    With a WIDA Overall Composite Level 1.0-2.9/ W-APT 0-20 Receive at least 2 of the following:
    -Language literacy block 5x/week for 60-75 mins a day with EL teacher
    -EL collaboration and co-teaching of content classes throughout the week
    -Small language intervention groups 4x/week for 30 mins a day during class intervention time

    With a WIDA Overall Composite Level 3.0-3.9/W-APT 21-25 Receive one of the following:
    -Language literacy block 5x/week for 60-75 mins a day with EL teacher
    -EL collaboration and co-teaching of content classes throughout the week
    -Small language intervention groups 4x/week for 30 mins a day during class intervention time

    With a WIDA Overall Composite Level 4.0-4.5 and did NOT exit/W-APT 26-27 receive one of the following in addition to EL collaboration in content classes throughout the week:
    -Content work monitored by EL teacher
    -assessed each trimester using WIDA Model
