First grade is an irreplaceable year because students are learning how to read! First graders are also mastering the skills needed to sit and listen to the teacher for longer periods of time. Students will learn about reading with fluency, understanding the stories they read and counting to 120, among many other exciting lessons. Some academic highlights are a plant project, trip to the Science Museum, and extensive learning about the history of the USA. Things to work on at home with first grade students are reading and counting, as often as possible. We are looking forward to watching students become readers this year!
