    Media Specialist/Librarian, Elementary & Middle School Education (K-8), (1.0 F.T.E.) (2021-22)

    • TCIS is now accepting applications for a K-8 Media Specialist/Librarian position for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Applicants must curerently hold the appropriate MN licensure with Library/Media experience strongly preferred. This is a 1.0 F.T.E. position with a start date of 08/16/2021. 
    • The Media Specialist/Librarian will manage two libraries within the same building. One media center is designated to elementary students (grades K-4) on the first floor and one media center dedicated to middle school students (grades 5-8) is located on the second floor. Both collections use the Destiny Library Collection management software through Follett.
    • Responsibilities include the overall educational and administrative operations of the library/media center, including but not limited to: Providing resources through a systematically developed collection within the school. Assisting students in identifying, locating, and interpreting information housed in the library media centers. Managing collection development and the acquisition of materials and resources. Collaborating with teachers to teach information skills within the context of classroom curriculum. Participate in division, department and grade-level curriculum design and assessment projects as appropriate. Managing purchasing receipts and records to monitor budget expenditures against the media center's annual budget. Eliminating materials which are worn, outdated or no longer used. Other duties as assigned.

    Elementary Education, Kindergarten-4th Grade Teacher, (1.0 F.T.E.) (2021-22)

    • TCIS is now accepting applications for Kindergarten-4th Grade Teacher positions for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Specific grade level positions availability are to be determined after May 3rd, 2021. This is a 1.0 F.T.E. position with a start date of 08/16/2021.     • Responsibilities would include (but not limited to) teaching assigned grade level and subjects by meeting the needs of each student through individual, small group and/or large group instruction, following all policies and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching dictates, clear communication with both staff and students and contributing positively to the learning and development of students.

    Arabic Teacher, Kindergarten-4th Grade, (1.0 F.T.E.) (2021-22)

    • TCIS is now accepting applications for a K-4 Arabic Teacher for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. This is a 1.0 F.T.E. position with a start date of 08/16/2021.
    • Applicants MUST hold a VALID and APPROPRIATE Minnesota TEACHING LICENSE for ARABIC LANGUAGE. Candidates must be able to read, write and speak Arabic fluently. They should possess strong curriculum planning, classroom management, and communication skills. Ability to develop and foster appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children according to age, ability and aptitude.

    Middle School Reading Specialist, 5th-8th Grade, (1.0 F.T.E.) (2021-22)

    • Objective: Using the appropriate curriculum and instructions encourages the advancement of students' reading proficiency and encourages them to value reading.
    • Summary: This individual is responsible for working with teachers, for modeling the best lessons, and providing development.
    • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; Master's degree preferred with 3 years teaching experience.
    • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Minnesota Teaching License with Reading Endorsement.

    Duties and Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to): Help create an environment of literacy conducive to effective instruction. Establish rapport and maintain constructive interaction with students and colleagues. Maintains instructional momentum in classroom. Maintain a collection of professional reading/learning materials which reflect current trends. Assist teachers in planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of instruction. Facilitate the integration of reading skills/strategies/technology into the reading classrooms. Assist teachers in the evaluation of diagnostic results and future instruction based on those results. Demonstrates ability to present reading as a process rather than a series of skills and encourages lifelong learning. Provides in-service and follow-up coaching to teachers. Assists in the administration and interpretation or reading progress monitoring and diagnostics. Keeping accurate records of these scores. Assist in formal and informal assessments and interpretation of results. Works with teachers to design instruction as a result of monitoring progress and diagnostic results. Serves as a member on school literacy groups and committees. Other duties as assigned.

    Middle School Counselor, 5th-8th Grade, (1.0 F.T.E.) (2021-22)

    • Required Qualifications: Valid Minnesota School Counselor license, Master's Degree in School Counseling.
    • Highly Preferred: Bilingual Somali speaking, Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students, Previous experience in working with urban and underserved students, Previous experience in working with ELL students and their families.

    Duties and Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to): Facilitate small groups or individual sessions with students regarding personal issues, social interactions, and emotional concerns. Assist students in planning an educational program that will fit their educational abilities and aptitudes. Provide individual and group counseling to students who are struggling academically and behaviorally. Provide support for students as needed on time management and organizational issues. Provide transition support to students, staff, and families. Meet with students regarding developmental transitions (middle school to high school). Provide parents/guardians consultative services with respect to student's academic or behavioral issues. Educate newly enrolled students and families about academic program and expectations of our school. Help students and families with academic planning based on student goals. Work with families and students regarding academic progress and refer students to academic support within the building or community as needed. Engage family partnerships to provide equitable counseling services. Conduct informational meetings for parents focusing on comprehensive school counseling programming. Consult with staff and administration about course options and school wide curriculum. Coordinate, administer and interpret guidance assessment instruments that enhance the academic and career planning of each student. Refer students to outside mental health specialists when he or she is experiencing mental health issues. Provide individual and group counseling to students in need of immediate personal crisis management. Consult with teams and families about student personal/social strengths and needs. Communicate and consult with other student support services (e.g. social workers) regarding student related personal concerns. Meet with newly enrolled students and families about transitioning into our school. Work with administrators and support staff on building crisis intervention plan. Prepare all 8th grade students for the transition to high school. Other duties as assigned.

    Educational Assistant, 5th-8th Grade, (1.0 F.T.E.) (2021-22)

    • TCIS is now accepting applications for 5th-8th Grade Educational Assistant positions for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Specific grade level positions and availability are to be determined after May 3rd, 2021. This is a 1.0 F.T.E. position with a start date of 08/16/2021.
    • Requirements: Somali/Oromo and English bilingual. Associate's degree or 2 years of related classwork, experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The following skills are preferred: Language Skills, Mathematical Skills, Reasoning Ability, Computer Skills.
    • Responsibilities would include (but not limited to): Help develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children according to age, ability, and aptitude. Educational assisstants also assist the teachers in helping challenge and inspire students to ddepen their knowledge and understanding. 

    General K-8 Teacher Job Responsibilities/Duties (Including, but not limited to)

    • Work collaboratively with your Grade level team and assigned team (s); 
    • Engage students in learning through best practice strategies, establishing high expectations for students;
    • Communicate effectively with parents, students and staff;
    • Plan, organize and deliver lessons consistent with MN state standards and relevant curriculum;
    • Comfortable integrating technology into daily lesson plans;
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all your students;
    • Experience with standards-based instruction, English-Language Learners, distance learning and common assessments a plus;

    Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed School Nurse (LSN), (K-8) (1.0 F.T.E.)

    Requirements:  Bachelor's Degree in Nursing plus one of the following requirements: Licensed as Professional Registered Nurse by Minnesota Board of Nursing, Certified as a Public Health Nurse by the Minnesota Board of Nursing, Licensed as a Public School Nurse by Minnesota Department of Education or required to obtain license if not currently licensed.
    Responsibilities:  Include, but not limited to: CPR/First Aid certification, ability to triage, react quickly, calmly and decisively, good oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality. Provide daily health care needs for students and staff as needed, maintains and updates student health records, performs health screenings and assessments for students referred for possible health concerns, screens and evaluates findings during screenings, provides assessment, intervention, evaluation and referral for medical care for students with chronic conditions and/or emergency conditions, coordinates the usage/supply of first aid supplies, plans and implements school health management policies and protocols, any additional duties as assigned.
